Royal Caribbean - Sitelet Integration Program
In fall 2000 Royal Caribbean launched two "sitelets". These were independent flash experiences for the Caribbean and Europe that had been developed by the creative group before the information architecture department was brought on to the account.
Faced with significant usability issues with the sitelets, RCCL asked for two things: to fix the usability issues and to integrate these experiences into the main web site.
The initial response was to do a series of usability tests to determine the exact usability hot points in the sitelets. Next recommendations were made to fix the usability issues and then the integration recommendations were made.
Although the final integration did not reflect the recommended solutions, there were significant improvements for users in accessibility and usability. Now that these experiences were integrated into the main web site users could enjoy rich media experiences and have the convenience of navigating to other options or site locations.
